Inverse Trigonometric Functions Practice Problems

Find the angle in the right range: [−π/2, π/2] for arcsin, [0, π] for arccos, (−π/2, π/2) for arctan. The later problems use a triangle to simplify compositions.

Inverse Trigonometric Functions Practice Problems

These problems follow the inverse trigonometric functions lesson. Check every answer against the range of the function.

Common mistakes to watch for

  • Answers outside the range. gives angles in , in , and in .
  • Confusing with . The means inverse function, not reciprocal; is .
  • Inputs outside the domain. and only accept values from to .
  • Assuming always. It is only true when is already in .

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I type an angle with π?+

Type pi or π, for example 2pi/3 or -π/4. A decimal accurate to three places is accepted too.

Why is arcsin(sin(5π/6)) not 5π/6?+

Because arcsin can only return angles between −π/2 and π/2, and the angle in that range with the same sine is π/6.
